Valentine’s Day is next month and it has to be my favorite holiday of the year! No; it’s not because you can eat huge boxes of chocolate and no one looks at you funny, although that is an awesome perk to the day. Mine is because my youngest son was born on Valentine’s Day and from that day forward my husband and I stopped giving each other presents since we gave each other the best present that we could never duplicate with a material gift. But just because I don’t give a gift to my husband doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy creating gifts for others to buy and give to their sweetheart.
Hearts are the ultimate icon of Valentine’s day so I created some scrap wood hearts that will be for sale at Charmed Market in Germanton, NC.
This first one is my weathered gray heart made from a pallet, old drawer and burlap coffee bean sack that I used to cover the back and sides of the heart.
This next item isn’t a heart but is still just as cute to give to someone to hang on their wall.
The base is a wooden plaque painted gray and stenciled in white. The faded red letters add a great “pop” of color.
I like to call this last piece my “rugged” heart. It’s a little rough around the edges but is still just as sweet as the gray one.
The colors I used were white, pink and gold and I gave them a slight ombre effect by lightly blending the three colors. I also added grosgrain ribbon around the edge to give this rugged heart a dainty touch.
These items will be for sale at Charmed Market in Germanton, NC later this week. When you stop in tell them The Junkin Chick sent you!
