I found some old wooden birds while pickin’ in NH with my SIL and it was love at first sight! Well, I may be exaggerating that part but I definitely knew I could do something with them. They looked like they were part of a light fixture because there was a cord hooked to them and it looked as if something hung from the beaks. Could you imagine this in your home hanging over your dining room table? Well, to each his own!
The thing that really stood out to me were the wings on the birds. I knew even if I couldn’t use the whole bird I could at least use the wings for something.
I also found this chair back while in NH and I never pass up a good chair back.
They can be used for all sorts of repurposing ideas.
Once I wiped off the layers of dust the beautiful wood appeared…that I instantly painted over it. Sorry, that’s just how I roll.
I sprayed it a beautiful metallic gold that brought out the details in the wood.
And here’s where those beautiful wings ended up. The chair back almost reminds me of a harp which makes the wings very fitting to go with. See the faux potted plants in the picture below? I ripped out the flowers and used the pots as handles.
And here it is in all it’s glory, a very heavenly coat rack. I painted and distressed the wings before attaching them to the chair back. I wanted some sort of contrast against the gold.
I am thrilled with the way it turned out. I may have to keep this for myself! It’s amazing what items you can repurpose. All you need are some nails, paint and a little imagination.
