I’m starting my decorating and DIY projects in the foyer of our new home. It was painted a dingy looking white with a cream colored trim which made it look very dark and depressing. The light fixture did nothing to add to the warm and cozy feel I was going for so it had to go! So with some beautiful new paint, a new light fixture, cheery pieces of art work and some furniture, it has turned into a cozy and inviting room.
Let me show you the details…
I was trying to paint and decorate our foyer all before Christmas Eve so at least one room in my house would look presentable for our Christmas Eve party especially since we still had moving boxes and bubble wrap scattered everywhere from the move.
I knew I wanted to paint the foyer gray and the trim white so after much debate I chose Benjamin Moore’s Coventry Gray. Depending on how much light is in the room it can look very gray to a bluish gray which is fine with me.

I have the worst time “cutting in” without using painter’s tape. If anyone has any tips or tricks…PLEASE let me know so I can quit buying so much Frogtape!
The original lighting fixture was not the look I was going for…it wasn’t very farmhouse-y in my opinion so it had to go bye-bye.
I replaced it with a semi-flush mount light that uses an “Edison Bulb”. I love how clean and simple it is and the price from Joss and Main made it a great choice. At only $40.00, it made it very budget-friendly for my wallet.
Here is the link to Joss and Main and the light fixture I purchased in case anyone is interested in getting one. They come in about 4 or 5 different finishes. The one I purchased is in the “brass nickel” finish.
I love creating a collage of different pictures and artwork to tell a story and the story I’m telling below is about Love.
The picture of the very handsome man and beautiful woman below are of my mom and dad. It was a painting reproduced of an old photo my brother had commissioned probably 25 years ago as a Christmas present to our parents. I love how my mom is resting on my dad’s shoulder as if she’s saying, “You are my rock”. Now she may have just been weak from hunger since they were having a rough time those days…but, I like my version better so I will stick with it.
The larger piece of artwork was made by yours truly probably 6 years ago which I made from the door of an old armoire that belonged to my father’s grandmother. I used peel and stick stencils and some paint to create this masterpiece…LOL
The small table is also a piece I “revamped”. It’s actually a plastic table that I painted and modge-podged some burlap strips on the top of to give it a farmhouse feel. The small chair was purchased at Ashley Furniture Homestore and is one of the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat in.
I love the way everything turned out. This definitely makes for a comfortable space to read or sit by the door to wait on the UPS man to deliver more “goodies” I’ve ordered to decorate my home with. But please, don’t tell my husband this…it will be our little secret.
Well, that was one side of our foyer. Stay tuned for Part 2 to see what I’ve done to the other side to give it that modern farmhouse-y feel.
