Have you ever dreamed something so big for your future that you were too scared to tell anyone because in the natural it seemed absurd? Has God put a desire in your heart and given you a vision to go after something that others don’t see? Do you know why others can’t see it…because God gave YOU the vision, not other people. This is why we shouldn’t crave the approval of others concerning OUR vision.
Many of us are familiar with the following bible verse- Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart- Psalm 37:4 NIV. But most of us don’t fully understand what it means.
If we truly seek God (“delighting ourselves in Him”), God often plants His own desires in our hearts so that our wants and His wants line up as the same.
God gives you the desires of your heart. He does not give you your heart’s desire. There is a difference.
Look back on your own life and think of a time when you desired something so badly that you thought you’d die if you didn’t get it. Now fast forward to today. Do you still desire that same thing? Did you get it but the desire soon faded? Can you guess why that desire didn’t fulfill you or even come to fruition? It’s because that was YOUR desire not one that God put in you.
When God put’s a burning desire in you it’s affirmation that it’s already yours, you just need to put in the hard work to get it. God will give us the desires of our heart, but the first desire of our heart should be to serve Him.
We may question God when he puts a desire in our heart by us telling God why we can’t do it because we don’t have the resources. In Exodus Chapter 3 we see Moses standing in front of the burning bush. The fire he sees intrigues him because it represents the fire burning inside him. When God tells Moses go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt he questions God.
Exodus 4:1 NIV- Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”
2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
God is asking us the same, “What is in your hand?” Use what you have and trust God to send you the resources to achieve the desire he has put in your heart.
You’re going to feel ill-equipped when you first start out but trust God and step out in faith. When Peter stepped out of the boat and took his eyes off God he started sinking and immediately God reached down to save Peter. He will also do the same for us. Keep your eye on God and not on the storm.
Has God put a desire in your heart to do something amazing but you feel you don’t have the resources to achieve it? Leave a comment so we can keep the discussion going.
