When we bought our home in November I didn’t pay too much attention to the color of the paint on the walls. It may have been because I was too concerned with the ugly green carpet and outdated guest bath to notice it. But once we moved in I noticed that most of the rooms were all painted the same color. And when I say the same color I mean EVERYTHING was painted the same color. The built- ins, walls, trim and doors were all the same color in the den. BORING!!!
I just knew we had to throw some paint on the walls to make it feel more our style. Enter Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal to the rescue along with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. The contrast of these two colors along with painting the trim white made such a huge difference.
I left the doors off to add more character and to allow a space to highlight some of my favorite books.
I had my oldest son sand the paint off the shelves and I love the natural color of the wood along with the bits of paint showing through.
My next task is to white-wash the fireplace and install a mantel to give it some character.
Tackling those built-ins were a booger but I am so happy with the results.
So do you have any built-ins at your home? What do you love or hate about them? Leave me a comment below.
