How often do we wrap our self-worth into the type of car we drive, the clothes we wear, the amount of money we have in our bank account or even the person we’re married to. The only problem in doing this is that it leaves us depressed and unsatisfied. Our self-worth shouldn’t be wrapped up in things or people but in knowing we are good enough and that our worth and value isn’t dependent upon others acceptance of us.
Our world tells us we need to be thin, we need electric white smiles, we need to go on an exotic vacation every year, we need a million “friends” on FB and on and on and on. Bull!
What the “world” doesn’t know is that we are worthy whether or not we have those “things”. God created man in His own image. HIS own image…we are children of a KING!
How many kids of kings do you see questioning their self-worth? None, zip, zero. When you are part of a royal family you hold your head up, not arrogantly, but in knowing who you are and whose you are.
Maybe the reason we don’t know our worth is because we focus too much on our self and not enough on others. Until we realize we were not created for our self we will always struggle with self-esteem issues. Instead of looking to others to fix our spiritual wounds which it can never do, we should look to God to change our heart.
And I’ll end this post by quoting the legendary rapper Drake, “Know yourself, know your worth.”
