It’s November which in my home means I am decorating for Christmas. I like to draw inspiration to decorate my home for the holidays from new items in the stores and also by browsing decor catalogs but at times the prices for some of those items can leave you shell-shocked. That’s why I love The Look for Challenge created by Yami @ The Latina Next Door. Each month she has a new co-host and this month her co-host is Jessica @ Measure and Mix.
The Look for Less Challenge
For my DIY project I was inspired by a sign I saw on Pottery Barn’s website. They wanted $129 for theirs but I knew I could create mine for a whole lot less.
Pottery Barn inspired Christmas sign
- old door, piece of wood, etc.
- acrylic paints and brushes
- vinyl lettering
- paper cut outs
- glue gun
Using white acrylic paint I applied one coat to the door to completely cover the chalkboard paint that was previously on the surface.
Since I have the worst handwriting I used vinyl lettering to spell out Merry Christmas on my sign.
I wanted to add a little bit more flair to my sign so I hot glued some mistletoe cutouts to add a pop of color.
Painting free-hand isn’t my forte so all I did was dip my sponge brush into some acrylic paint and dabbed it on my sign to create a border.
While this doesn’t look exactly like the one from Pottery Barn I am thrilled at how it turned out.
