Do you get the Lowe’s Creative Ideas Magazine they send out? If not, you can subscribe here. And the best part is that it’s FREE!! It always has the best decorating ideas for the holidays. Look at this cute idea for fall- {all of the pics and directions are from Lowe’s website}

1. Cut 15 (2-foot) pieces of 3/4-inch-thick rope (#31166). Unravel 6 inches at each end of each piece.

2. Cut a 17-foot length of the rope, and tie on the unraveled pieces at 12-inch intervals with twine (#66510). Hang the garland around the door using wire nails.

And this one is SUPER cute!! And I always see these shades at Goodwill for a fraction of what you pay for at a retail store.

1. Draw a face on a frosted glass shade with a pencil. We chose bell-shaped glass shades (#39040*). Using a permanent marker, trace and fill in the face. It may take several coats to fully cover.

2. Apply black spray paint (#282318) to both sides of a 6-inch saucer (#94456). Allow to dry.

3. Place a small flameless candle (#166531) in the saucer, and cover with the glass shade.

I absolutely LOVE decorating for Fall…and the countdown is on! Only 22 days til Fall!! I can’t wait…

Happy Anniversary…Happy Anniversary…

On this great day 21 years ago I married my soul mate and it’s been happily-ever-after. I know what you’re thinking…yea right!! Well, I did marry my soul mate but it hasn’t been happily-ever-after. There have been arguments, fights (not literally), silent treatments and down right stupidness in our 21 years together…and that’s just from him!! No, in all honesty marriage is hard work. And if I’ve learned anything in my 21 years of marriage is that compromise is key and not to argue about the little things that don’t amount to a hill of beans. Oh no…I’m talking like my mom!!

But seriously, I look at marriage like running a business. You have one person doing the accounting and another one doing sales. Everyone contributes in some way. Mr. C is the head of our household but I do all the magic behind the scenes. And so far, it’s worked out pretty well. I just may keep him on the payroll another 21 years.

And here is proof of his love. He stopped by my office today and brought me a tall, sugar-free vanilla cappuccino with soy milk from Starbucks. Yum!! I was just impressed he knew how to order it. And he brought me a lovely card. I really hate when he wastes spends money on flowers. For me, I would rather have a cappuccino from Starbucks over flowers any day.

And then after work Mr. C took us out to “Smokey Bones”.

After the appetizers…I wasn’t able to eat too much of my dinner.

Tre’ looked like he was in a hurry to eat!!

He ate so fast I couldn’t get a good pic of him.

I’ve got to say…it’s been a great 21 years that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.

First Day of School…

Ok…so today is the first day of school for many kids. My youngest included. And it couldn’t have started off any worse for him. Mr. C was taking him to school and as soon as Tre’ got in the car he noticed he was missing his glasses. He had them on his shirt when he walked out of the house. So he got out and saw them on the ground. Well, it wouldn’t have been so bad if Mr. C hadn’t already backed up. And yea, you guessed it. He ran over them! Mr. C was able to get a replacement pair this afternoon but unfortunately Tre’ had to go without them for today.

This pic was taken at the end of the day…he wasn’t in the mood for pics!!!

Well, things got even better. Our water heater decided to turn our basement into a swimming pool. I’ve always wanted a swimming pool just not in my basement.

I adore Fall. The leaves turning brilliant colors, the smell of wood burning, not to mention Halloween and Thanksgiving. And speaking of food…Krispy Kreme is introducing some new doughnuts. They look awesomelicious…wait…what? Anyway, they look good!

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall…

I love mirrors…especially mirrors that make a statement. And this one caught my eye right away at my local Goodwill- even through all of the dirt and dust on it I could see the potential it had. I believe it was $2.50… 1/2 off from the original price. I love the curves and the embellishment on top. The only problem is that it isn’t wood. It’s faux wood, plastic to be exact.

I wanted a more vintage look to it so I primed it, painted it with some oops paint that only cost a $1.00 (Valspar Cottontail Satin) and then took some sandpaper to it to rough up the edges.

I took the back off and removed the mirror to make the painting easier.

Can I tell ya, that mirror weighed a ton!!! This made the job easier to handle.

Craigslist Dining Table…

I have been looking for a dining room table that will seat more than 6 people for months now. The only criteria I had was that it had to be cheap and well-built. Well, I finally found a table that seats 8. It only came with 6 chairs and 1 of those is broken but that’s ok. It was only $70.00 and that included delivery. I can work with this…

Here is the pic from the Craigslist ad. I received it disassembled so this is the only before pic I will have for my future makeover reveal.

Let’s Go Junkin’…

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve gone junkin’…too long!! And what kind of a Junkin’ Chick would I be if I didn’t go Junkin’???? Wouldn’t make much sense now would it…

So this weekend my mom and I hit the thrift stores. Come along with me as I take you to 2 of my favorite places to junk.

My first go-to thrift store for unique and frugally priced items is the Edna Howell Thrift Store. This store is fantastic! The store was located in the church for years but now they are in their own building and it is truly great.

They also have a great selection of clothes but I forgot to take any pics… {click on any of the pics to see a larger view}

This place has some great linens at great prices.

I got these pillow cases for only .25 each!!! And they were in pristine condition.

The next place I love to shop is Habitat for Humanity. You can find tons of new items along with gently used items. The prices vary but I can always find a great deal on what I’m looking for.

Today they had tons of brand new lamp shades for 15.oo ea.

The variety at this store is AWESOME! They have furniture, linens and books along with great vintage items.

And what makes this place even better are the old hardwood floors.

They creak when you walk on them and add a bit of nostalgia to your shopping experience.
